FAQs
Is UFH more expensive to install ?
UFH is dearer than radiators but because of the lower running costs and the increase in property value the additional costs are quickly recouped.

If I install UFH what happens if I have a leak ?
All the pipes are a continuous loop from Manifold to the area to be heated back to the manifold. Before the screed is layed the UFH is pressure tested with water for peace of mind. If the pipe is accidentally damaged there are joints available to carry out a repair.

Can UFH be combined with radiators ?
There is no problem heating one part of a property with UFH and another with radiators as long as they are separate systems since the water temperature in UFH is lower. Towel rails can be connected to either system.

Is UFH left on continuously ?
Yes is the true answer except that during occupied times the temperature is set at a higher level than during unoccupied times. This is known as set back and is carried out automatically by the controls.

Can every room be set at a different temperature ?
Yes, the controls allow you to do this with individual room thermostats.

What floor constructions can be used ?

Solid Floors
Screed floors which are normally 65mm thick can be used normally a ratio of 4 : 1,Fibres can be added to the mix to reduce micro cracking to the surface. Chemicals can be added for faster drying times.
Liquid screed (Anhydrite screed)
This type of screed comes as a liquid and is pumped into the property and poured onto the floor through a pipe. Large areas can be covered in a short period of time. However the floor and edge insulation must be water proofed. The only disadvantage with this type of screed is the slow drying time.

Suspended floors.
There are several types of methods used with timber floors details are enclosed in drawing form.

Change in floor levels?
UFH can be installed in properties with varying floor levels as long as the pipes are laid with long radius bends.

What floor coverings can be used ?
Nearly all floor coverings can be used i.e. tiles, stone, wood, vinyl, carpets. The combined TOG value of the underlay and carpet should not exceed 1.5. Cork surfaces should be avoided.

Is UFH suitable for Barn conversions or Old building renovations ?
Yes UFH is ideal for these buildings since UFH is radiant heat and not convected heat as radiators. Care should be taken to upgrade the insulation values of the property.

Can we allow for future Zones ?
Yes if there is a possibility of an extension on the property then allowances can be made for the manifold to have additional ports incorporated in the original specification. Floor ducts should be allowed for in the screed floor from the manifold to the proposed extension.

What guarantees are there on the system ?
The pipe that we use carries a 10 year guarantee on all consequential damage resulting from proven production faults.
The other parts carry the manufacturers guarantee.
